With expansive grounds which lead out in to verdant Puglian countryside, Tenuta Marilù is the perfect place for a holiday with your nearest and dearest. Whether you wish to spend your days lazing by the pool or exploring the nearby coastline and historic villages, there is something for everyone here.
This elegantly decorated family home is made up of a historic Trullo building and a recently added annexe. Trulli are only found here in Italy’s heel and staying in this white washed dwelling with its cone shaped roof offers you a glimpse in to the history of the area when the farmers used these buildings during the summer months. Indoors, the accommodation is all on one floor; there is a spacious living room with a period fireplace and a gorgeous vaulted stone ceiling. Flowing around from the living room there is a fully-fitted kitchen with all of the appliances you could need and an indoor dining space. Two double bedrooms with their own en-suite bathrooms are set within this centuries-old Trullo. The third bedroom is just next door in a modern annexe building which boasts a sitting area, a kitchenette, a bedroom and a bathroom. This bedroom has twin beds but these can be converted to a double if this is preferred. There is plenty more space for your group to gather outside in the manicured garden which has lawned areas, established trees and fragrant planting. Out here you will find a vast freeform swimming pool which has a jacuzzi section where guests can unwind and take in the views of the stunning surrounding grounds and countryside. The roof terrace is the ideal spot for basking in the sun, while the covered outdoor sofas are great for when you wish to cool down on a hot afternoon. The tree-filled private estate is a lovely place for an afternoon stroll or you could head out in to the nearby hills to follow cycling and hiking trails. Another wonderful way to explore this breathtaking landscape is by booking on to an organised horse trek with a local equine centre. This area of Puglia is dotted with lots of pretty towns and villages which are just a stone’s throw away from the house. The nearest village is Cisternino which is 7km away. This idyllic whitewashed village offers a number of shops and eateries, historic buildings to explore and enjoys wonderful views over the Valle d’Itria.Close by you can also visit the towns of Martina Franca and Ceglie Messapica which are each around 10km away. The UNESCO World Heritage town of Alberobello which is packed with clusters of dazzling white Trulli is also well worth a visit and is 23km away by car.

Location:
Nestled amidst oak and almond trees and swathes of private grounds made up of dense Mediterranean planting is Tenuta Marilù, a historic Trullo home which has been part of this land for centuries. From your base at the villa you are able to unwind in the gorgeous natural environment and drive to nearby villages to enjoy traditional Puglian dishes for dinner.
Though the home enjoys an idyllic setting in picture-perfect countryside, you will not be isolated here and can find yourself sipping a cappuccino in a pretty piazza of one of the nearby towns within a 10km drive. There are a few eateries and small shops dotted around the hills near to the home, but Cisternino is the closest village at just 7km away. The village is a maze-like collection of winding streets leading out on to bustling squares, giving it the nickname of the Kasbah of the Valle d’Itria. The streets are lined with historic buildings such as the ancient churches the Church of San Nicola and the Baroque church San Cataldo and numerous towers like the clock tower and a Norman-Swabian look-out tower from the middle-ages. As well as its rich history, Cisternino is known for its food, especially the freshly barbecued meat which is prepared for diners by local butchers rather than at a restaurant. There are restaurants here too however as well as shops and cafes. Cisternino is just one of the countless villages and towns in this area of Puglia and just 10km away you can also explore Martina Franca, with its 17th-century Ducal Palace and a lively café culture. The hillside city of Ostuni, which is just 13km away, should also make your itinerary. Known as the white city, it winds its way up to a hilltop and offers amazing views of the surrounding fields as well as a great selection of artisan shops and eateries.
In addition to its serene countryside and historic towns, Puglia is also home to incredible beaches. The closest beach is 22km away and is called Torre Canne. This beach is a long sandy stretch close to a lighthouse and a pretty harbour which you can also visit. The beaches of Savelletri can be reached within a 27km drive or you could opt to spend a day in the glamourous town of Polignano a Mare, which is 46km away. Polignano a Mare has some of the area’s best beaches, a picturesque old town and some amazing galleries and museums making it a brilliant place to visit.
