Location:

A beautiful stretch of coast extends north of Dubrovnik, and Orašac can be found along it, about 16km from this impressive city. Idyllic beaches like Plaza Orašac and Zaton Bay line the coast, while olive groves and vineyards are common features of the wider area. Not far east of Dubrovnik, Croatia gives way to Bosnia & Herzegovina, while Montenegro is less than an hour to the south – along this stretch, you’ll find lovely spots such as Molunat and Cavtat.

Dubrovnik’s Old Town, and the mighty City Walls which surround it, draw many visitors. Walking the walls can be hard work but you will be rewarded with some breath-taking views of the Adriatic.
Dubrovnik plays hosts to cultural events like the Dubrovnik Summer Festival each year, and a Venetian-style carnival takes place in February. There is often entertainment on the streets or taking place at heritage venues, such as jazz and classical concerts.

If you want the best views in town, make sure you take the cable car up Mt Srd. As you ascend, you can admire the Old Town the Adriatic and look out to the nearby islands. It may inspire you to head out of the city – to the north, past the quiet bays of Zaton and Orašac, lies the Trsteno Arboretum.

This is just one of the locations in and around Dubrovnik which can claim a ‘Game of Thrones’ connection. Various tours take in many of the others and will fill you in on what was filmed where.
A little further away is pretty little Brsečine, the former home of the great Croatian poetess and early feminist, Cvijeta Zuzorić. There is a charming beach in Brsečine which is worth stopping for.

South of Dubrovnik, Cavtat’s pretty marina looks out on a stunning mountain scene, and is well worth seeing. Cavtat has a rich history and cultural attractions that you may want to investigate, including the Rector’s Palace and the House of Vlaho Bukovac, dedicated to a noteworthy local artist. Beyond Dubrovnik Airport, Molunat’s sandy beaches and fragrant pine woods make it an appealing place to stop – there are also some highly recommended restaurants there.
