DETAILS & AMENITIES

In a prime location near the banks of the Dordogne, Maison Moulene stands as a grand 19th-century house with a private swimming pool in the historic market town of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande. This strategic location makes it an ideal base for exploring Bergerac, Bordeaux, and other picturesque villages, towns, vineyards, and châteaux of the region.

Originally built for the town’s mayor, Maison Moulene boasts a rich history and retains many original features such as waxed flooring, marble hallways, and an impressive stone staircase. A collection of old furnishings and paintings adds to its charm.

This historic maison has been meticulously restored, blending modern amenities with its characterful features. Guests can expect comfortable beds, high-quality bed linen, and newly renovated bathrooms and kitchens across all ten bedrooms. Five bedrooms are located in the main part of the house, while a ground floor studio bedroom offers additional privacy. Two one-bedroom apartments in the garden, one with a balcony overlooking the river, and a 2-bedroom garden gite provide further accommodation options.

Guests can immerse themselves in the fragrant aromas of lavender, jasmine, and trailing roses in the courtyard, where they are welcome to help themselves to herbs. The garden boasts plum, apricot, and cherry trees, as well as seasonal vegetables and chickens. The outdoor terrace, complete with a barbecue and firepit, offers the perfect setting for alfresco dining or evening gatherings. A delightful swimming pool within the walled garden provides a refreshing retreat on warm summer days.

Just steps away, guests can enjoy morning croissants and fresh bread or opt for continental breakfast served by the owner. Sainte-Foy-la-Grande’s medieval lanes, half-timbered houses, and bustling Saturday morning market are a short stroll away. The town also offers a riverside beach and canoeing opportunities across the Dordogne.

Venture further afield to explore the region’s idyllic villages, bastide towns, and renowned vineyards. Activities such as golfing, wine tasting, cycling, and hot air balloon rides offer plenty of opportunities for adventure and relaxation amidst the stunning landscapes of south-western France.
