It is actually the harbour of the village of Chorafakia which is one kilometre to the north. Tersanas enjoys a fabulous sandy beach and two tavernas. Unspoilt by tourism, the Akrotiri peninsula is brimming with lovely sandy beaches, traditional local tavernas, ancient monasteries and stunning scenery. There is even a beautiful garden and lawn where you can relax in the shade. The villa was designed by a sea lover so three of the four bedroom suites and both living rooms enjoy full-on, breathtaking, panoramic sea views over the shimmering, turquoise bay. As soon as you arrive at Villa Zorba and take in the minimalist, trendy architecture and the manicured plot, you will realise that you are in for a real treat. It is a quality haven that even the most discerning of clients will fully embrace and appreciate. It is clear to see that no comprises have been made in the built and interior design and that it is the lifetime dream of the villa’s owner. You will relax in glorious style, enjoy delicious, chilled local wines and cocktails on the terraces, dine alfresco as the sun goes down, enjoy romantic sunsets, dive into the warm water of the infinity pool, amble down the rocky pathway to the sea to enjoy a swim in complete privacy and dive into deep slumber listening to the gentle sound of the waves.
The villa is built over two levels. The main living space is on the ground floor, a sumptuous, stylish space with trendy furnishings, a minimalist feel and drowned in natural light by the wall of glass doors that open to the terrace. With super cool designer leather sofas, sparkling floors and statement pieces, not to mention the stunning views, the room will make you smile for sure. The television, DVD’s and Bose music system are provided for your entertainment. The kitchen is one of your dreams with glossy white cabinetry, a central island and top-of-the-range appliances, all looking wonderful against the exposed stone wall. The designer dining table is like a work of art, so striking in its simplicity. Here you can dine with a view or head out to the terrace for a fabulous alfresco experience. One of the bedroom suites is also on the ground floor with direct access to the terrace and pool. It is a luxurious haven with the crispest of cottons, the most sublime of dreamy Dunlopillo mattresses and a striking stone wall that leads to a superb wellness shower.
Upstairs, you will discover another living area, similar in design to the lower one. With swanky furniture, it is another bright and super cool space that leads to another fabulous furnished terrace. Here you will find another television with Playstation 3 and lots of games as well as an excellent selection of books. The room can be closed by a massive wooden sliding door so that it can be used as an extra bedroom using the sofabeds. Two of the three bedroom suites on this level are seafront with the other still enjoying a sea view. They are all awe-inspiring with fabulously comfortable beds, minimalist design, brilliant white walls and the most fantastic ensuite bathrooms. One of the rooms was originally designed as two smaller bedrooms but the owner asked for the plans to be changed during construction resulting in a stunning space with a freestanding designer bath in the room. Here you can soak in style with a glass of champagne along with the most spectacular of vistas. The second seafront room also enjoys access to the upper floor terrace and boasts a wellness shower split from the room by a glass brick wall. At night the illuminated designer bedside tables offer a unique look. The last bedroom enjoys a view of the sea, the wild landscaping surrounding the villa and the White Mountains on the horizon. It boasts a sumptuous kingsize bed and a snail-shaped wellness shower with six jets. It is easy to see why the bedroom suites are all classed as masters! In addition, there is also another guest bathroom with a bath, shower and corian sink. This can be used by anyone staying in the second living space.
If the interiors are sublime, the outside spaces only get better! Exquisitely designed, there are numerous terraces, designer outdoor furnishings, a 50 sqm heated infinity pool with a children’s area, pergola covered alfresco lounge and dining spaces, a large sunbathing area near the pool with trendy wooden loungers and a special ‘dream area’ halfway down the pathway to the beach. Here you can disappear to laze on the twin designer sun lounger with your holiday book and a glass of something chilled. Alternatively, you can head for the upper terrace which also offers sun loungers. The Bose sound system also operates outside with a Bluetooth amplifier. Your barbecue masters will enjoy cooking summer feasts on the barbecue which can be followed by a glass of raki or ouzo that come with your welcome basket. Location:
Villa Zorba enjoys a premium location next to the sea in Tersanas, set within a secluded, rocky landscape. It is one of the few villas in this area with direct sea access. Within a few minute’s drive, you can visit one of Tersana’s tavernas for a healthy and tasty local Cretan feast. Tersana Beach enjoys two taverns, loungers, parasols and lovely fine sand. At the top of the hill, you will find the village of Chorafakia with its shops, bars, restaurants and cafes. Next door, is the beautiful beach of Kalathas, another Cretan wonder sprinkled with palm trees, loungers and parasols. There are several tavernas serving delicious traditional Cretan specialities and lots of seafood. A wonderful array of watersports are available. Opposite Kalathas is a small island which you can easily reach by swimming. Marathi boasts two beaches, separated by a small pier. They are well protected from the winds and boast impressive views to Drapanos Cape and the White Mountains. Again there is a small island which can be reached by swimming with a small pine wood. The western coast of it is popular with scuba divers. Seitan Limania Beach, on the east coast of the Akrotiri peninsula, is one of Crete’s most gorgeous hidden secrets. It is nestled in a canyon leading out to sea with cliffs either side and the finest white sand reaching out to turquoise waters that turn to the deepest blue as it joins the sea. It is stunning! You can take a boat trip to see this sensational beach. Close by, there is also Stavros Beach where ‘Zorba the Greek’ was filmed in 1964. If you have seen the film you may recognise the memorable scene where Quinn’s character dances the Sirtaki! For an amazing trip out, you could hire a boat to head over to the famous Balos Beach. The peninsula is home to many beautiful, ancient monasteries such as the 16th century Gouverneto Monastery and the 17th century Agia Triada Monastery.
Chania Old Town is a must. It is utterly gorgeous with unique shops, a brilliant dining scene, trendy bars serving cocktails and its famous harbour. The old Venetian harbour offers a phenomenal location for romantic strolls and dinner. It was originally built by the Venetians between 1320 and 1356 and is now a vibrant, cosmopolitan spot. The Egyptian lighthouse is much photographed, especially at sunset. You can take a slow meander to the lighthouse to take in the stunning views of the harbour, Old Town with the majestic White Mountains in the background. On the waterfront, the Giali Tzamisi is the oldest Muslim building in Crete. The Turkish name is translated to ‘The Seaside Mosque’. It plays host to various cultural events and exhibitions.
Following the Minoan Palace of Knossos, the second most visited tourist attraction in Crete is the dramatic Samaria Gorge which is 55km from the villa. It is the longest gorge in Europe and definitely worth the drive. Within the White Mountain’s National Park, it rises to an altitude of 1,230m, is 150m at its widest point and 3m at its narrowest and continues down to Agia Roumeli on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. The park and gorge offer protection to over four hundred and fifty species of plant and animal, of which seventy are endemic to Crete.
