Imagine gazing over the Provençal landscapes towards one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, Les Baux-de-Provence. The perched setting of Maison Césaire is stunning, surrounded by towering pines, olive trees and cypresses with the most incredible Les Alpilles views.
This is Provence living at its very best both inside and out. The owners have renovated Maison Césaire with such grace, restoring so many original features such as exposed stone and the lounge’s grand wooden doors. This contrasts so perfectly with the air-conditioned villa’s open-plan design and minimalist style with light flooding in from the elegantly arched windows.
Sleeping 10-14 guests, the five bedrooms have been beautifully created, all with queen or king-size doubles, two with open mezzanines for extra sleeping space. Gorgeous modern bathrooms are open plan to the bedrooms, most with walk-in Italian showers whilst the ground floor annexed double features a romantic free-standing bath.
Marvel at the breathtaking scenery around you from the south-facing terraces, play pétanque beneath the pines, enjoy lunch by the ash and hackberry trees and cool off in the salt-water swimming pool. With the sights and scents of Provence all around you, this is a truly spectacular setting.
You can reach historic Les Baux-de-Provence and its château in around 3.5km, passing endless olive groves as you drive through the undulating landscapes of this region. No wonder it’s a paradise for walkers and cyclists with trails through woodland, orchards, vines and hills – it’s also great for hikers, rock-climbers and mountain bike enthusiasts.
Stop off for lunch in nearby Maussane-les-Alpilles, famed for its AOP olive oil, or book a table at the legendary Bistro du Paradou. Soak up the ambience in the artistic town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence with its Wednesday morning market, then follow more of Van Gogh’s footsteps in Arles, the gateway to the Camargue.
Spend the day exploring the idyllic villages of the Luberon such as Ménerbes and Gordes, visit the historic city of Avignon, admire Cézanne’s artwork in Aix-en-Provence and purchase wine Châteauneuf-du-Pape before returning to the peaceful Provençal surroundings of your magnificent holiday home.
