The spacious, smartly appointed living area enjoys two large doors that open to delightful views of the garden, where a poolside summer kitchen with a barbecue and plancha offer more terrific opportunities for entertaining. The seamless indoor-outdoor flow continues throughout, with each of the five tastefully appointed bedrooms featuring its own door to the gardens, beautifully framed with native cypress and pine trees.
A fantastic night of sleep awaits you, with delightfully comfy beds and stone walls helping to keep the villa cool overnight. The master bedroom suite comprises a large, comfortable double bed, a dressing room and en-suite shower room, along with large doors that tempt you out to the poolside terrace as soon as you wake.
However you choose to reach Villa Manet’s glorious outdoor space, it welcomes you outside in real style. Whether you emerge to the cosy side garden, the shaded dining area, or head straight for the heated, twelve-metre swimming pool, you’ll find yourself surrounded by lush greenery, along with plenty of spots to unwind in an alluring blend of nature and luxury. There’s even a boules court, so you can try your hand at the locals’ leisurely pastime. You’ll have private parking space for up to four vehicles, as well as being in a convenient location for cycle hire.
Of course, you’ll want to enjoy your stunning outdoor kitchen during your stay, and in Portes en Ré you couldn’t be better located in terms of finding superb local ingredients. Incredible fresh fish is always plat du jour in Portes en Ré, so why not head to the village’s famous seafood market, less than a ten-minute walk from your villa? In addition to this, you will find supermarkets, wonderful bakeries and a daily, morning market with culinary delights of all kinds available.
You’re only ever a few minutes away from glorious sandy beaches, however you travel to them! Ile de Ré may be small – you can cycle from one end to the other in just two hours – but is certainly anything but restrictive. With more than sixty miles of cycle paths that wind through a gorgeous landscape of vineyards, salt marshes and exceptionally pretty villages, cycling really is the most enriching way to explore Ile de Ré.

Villa Manet is located to the north of Ile de Ré with some of the most beautiful beaches in France on its doorstep. Its visitors are unfailingly enchanted by unspoilt coastlines, a stunning landscape of forests, vineyards and salt marshes, as well as the charming villages dotted around this unique island – one where the French love to come en vacances.
Ile de Ré is almost entirely flat, so it’s easy to see why most visitors tend to explore it by on two wheels. Take your pick from glorious coastal stretches, winding roads through fields and forests, or any of the island’s extraordinarily pretty villages. Just be sure to pack some padded cycling shorts – it really makes all the difference comfort-wise. There are plenty of bike hire outlets within close reach, with electric bicycles, beach cruisers and even tandems available for hire.
Of course, the choice is yours – St Martin de Ré is only an hour away by bike, but you may find yourself driving back to its superb variety of boutique shops – the temptation is almost unbearable! The same can be said of the restaurants, creperies and gelaterias dotted around this delightfully sophisticated harbour village – not to mention the seafood outlets, serving the finest oysters, clams, mussels and cuttlefish. If you only choose one other village to enjoy after sundown, St Martin de Ré not only looks beautiful when illuminated, but the nightlife is the best on the island.
Just five minutes from Villa Manet, by car or bicycle guests can enjoy a variety of activities at Plage du Petit Bec ranging from surfing, bodyboarding, bodysurfing and longboarding lessons to an exciting boat ride. Between three and five people can climb aboard a motorboat and enjoy the thrill of the waves in style, all while enjoying the incredible coastal views.
The island is connected to the French mainland by a three-kilometre bridge, the Pont de l’ile de Ré. While this particular trip is definitely one for the more seasoned cyclist, it’s a real joy that many people return for each year. At two hours away by bike and just an hour by car, travelling along this engineering masterpiece is a treat in itself – but just wait until you see the views from it! At the other side of the bridge is the outrageously photogenic harbour town of La Rochelle. The vibrant harbour area is packed with artisanal market stalls, buskers and of course, phenomenal seafood restaurants. Just beyond the harbour, La Rochelle‘s lovingly preserved ‘old town’ provides further delights, with designer boutiques now occupying many of the stunning buildings, along with the spectacular market hall, which hosts stalls no gastronome will be able to resist!
