Situated on the outskirts a residential area, the contemporary, four-bedroomed Villa Lafleur is equidistant from both the vibrant island capital of Saint Martin de Ré, and the ever-popular beach resorts of Plage de Gros Joncs and Le Bois Plage en Ré.
A spacious and recently refurbished (2021) home that’s retained all its original charm – Villa Lafleur’s whitewashed walls and green shutters are emblematic of the island’s architectural style – with all the comforts of a modern family home. An open-plan living space incorporates a sofa in front of the television and fireplace, an egg chair suspended from the stunning vaulted ceiling, and a large dining table that’ll seat everyone comfortably at dinner.
Perfect for making magic on plates from some of the island’s fabulous produce, the open style kitchen is fully equipped with all your essential appliances, as well as an ice maker and Nespresso coffee machine.
You’ll find the master bedroom on the ground floor too, its en-suite featuring a walk-in shower and washbasin, along with a separate WC room. Another two double bedrooms are found on the upper storey, along with a bunk bed room (please don’t fight over the top bunk!) and the villa’s main bathroom, which features a bathtub with overhead shower and washbasin.

The immaculately landscaped garden keeps everything at ground level, with the only steps you’ll have to navigate leading into the five-person Jacuzzi at the side of the lawn. You’ll have a shaded dining area if you fancy preparing some delicious, fresh seafood on the plancha, along with comfortable seats and sun loungers – for when you can bring yourself away from your heated swimming pool.
Just two kilometres away, Saint Martin, the island’s ‘capital’, offers Michelin-starred restaurants, boat cruises, Tuk-Tuk rides and shopping opportunities, ranging from artisanal bakeries, mini-markets and charcuteries, to high-end boutiques – welcome to the ‘French Hamptons’! Thirty minutes by car or just over an hour by cycle is La Rochelle, on the French mainland, with amazing seafood restaurants, a lovingly preserved old town, and an incredible market hall that’s hosted vendors selling the west coast’s most incredible produce since the nineteenth century.
Ten minutes on a bicycle will be is all that stands between you and the glorious beaches of Le Bois Plage en Ré, with fresh seafood, sandy beaches and all the relaxation you can manage!

Location:
One of the main attractions of a break on this magical island is the prospect of a near-complete break from driving, while still being able to explore some wonderful landscapes and seascapes. You will have no problem finding a cycle hire shop in Saint-Martin-de-Ré (2km), so getting around on two wheels will be no problem.
The island has over sixty miles of dedicated cycle tracks, which are also accessible to the island’s fleet of Tuk-Tuks. All-electric and available to hire in four Ile de Ré villages including Saint Martin, these Tuk-Tuks are piloted by friendly drivers, who will introduce you to hidden gems not featured on tourist itineraries, like spectacular salt marshes, the very best oyster shacks and, of course, where to find delicious ice cream! Many of the island’s Tuk-Tuk passengers have alighted at Saint Martin quay, ready to sample the exquisite gelatos and frozen macarons at La Martinière. With mango and ginger, oyster and potato flavoured ice creams amongst others, there’s no shortage of choice either.
Saint-Martin-de-Ré, island ‘capital’ of the destination known as the ‘Hamptons of France’, is home to exclusive boutiques, Michelin-starred restaurants, centuries-old architecture and yachts on the marina. Browse the stores, sample delicious local cuisine, or just sit with a fresh coffee while taking in the scenery of this delightful harbour village.
Famous for its rugby team and just over an hour away by bike – including the three-kilometre Ile de Ré bridge – is the picturesque and historical port of La Rochelle. Explore the ramparts and famous three towers, wondrous fish restaurants and the town’s centuries-old market hall – with the very finest fresh produce.
