Located in a hip area to the west of Portes en Ré, the four-bedroomed Villa de la Boumédiène is within short reach of a stunning sandy beach. A trendy and comfortable base for your stay on Ile de Ré, you’ll be right on the doorstep of the very best attractions the north of this glorious island has to offer. Perfect for beach-loving families, artists, groups of surfers or couples seeking fabulous restaurants and sunset coastal walks, this smart, modern villa welcomes up to eight guests.
A bright, comfortable open-plan living space welcomes guests to this charming villa. With its large L-shaped sofa in front of the television and fireplace, this chilled living space also opens directly to the outdoor lounge and dining courtyard.
Your contemporary eat-in kitchen features a stylishly incorporated dining table, induction hob, microwave and Nespresso coffee machine. This is the perfect space for preparing meals with some of the premium seafood that’s only ever a few minutes away from your door.
The pleasing north African-inspired décor extends throughout Villa de la Boumédiène, where you will also find two bedrooms at garden level, one of which is en-suite, along with a smartly designed bathroom. Upstairs, you’ll find a further two double rooms with bathroom facilities, one with a lovely tub to soak your muscles in, after a day of cycling or surfing.
The pretty, stone-walled courtyard features a shaded lounge with banquette seating that’s perfect for winding down with a glass of wine in the evening or meeting for morning coffee, as well as a dining table with a barbecue and easy access from the kitchen. You’ll also have a pretty zen garden, where you can relax under palm trees on your own miniature sandy beach, before freshening up under the outdoor shower!
Whether you’re heading to this delightful island for the surf, seafood or just outright relaxation, Portes en Ré is the ideal base. As well as having plenty of superb village shops close by, you’ll find incredible restaurants, markets and ice cream parlours, as well as huge stretches of sandy beaches that are equally well suited to sunbathers and surfers. Take in the astonishing views at the Phare des Baleines lighthouse, take away the freshest oysters from a shack at the nearby Ferme des Baleines, or hire a board and take to the waves at La Plage du Petit Bec.

Location:
Just five minutes away is a gorgeous sandy beach where you can hire watersports equipment in the summer and take to the superb Atlantic waves. Beginners can take surfing lessons twice daily – do book ahead online – there are also motorboat rides and fishing excursions available, as well as the simple delight of coastal walks and cycle rides on this gorgeous coastline.
You’re only ever a few minutes away from glorious sandy beaches, however you travel to them! Ile de Ré may be small – you can cycle from one end to the other in just two hours – but is certainly anything but restrictive. With more than sixty miles of cycle paths that wind through a gorgeous landscape of vineyards, salt marshes and exceptionally pretty villages, cycling really is the most enriching way to explore Ile de Ré.
Just over ten minutes away by bike from Villa De La Boumédiène is the iconic Phare des Baleines lighthouse. You’ll find fantastic rides – or walks – along this stretch of coast, as well as the huge sandy beach at Plage de la Conche. There are some terrific little souvenir shops, restaurants and cafés, as well as the famous La Martinière gelateria, where you can sample oyster flavoured ice cream – if not, other flavours are available! Those with a head for heights will enjoy a grand panorama from the top of the lighthouse, with phenomenal views across Portes en Ré, and as far south as Ile d’Oléron.
An absolute must-visit for the seafood connoisseur, La Ferme des Baleines oyster farm is just ten minutes away by bike. This thirty-five-hectare farm is perhaps the finest example of the island’s aquaculture, producing incredible clear oysters, clams, gilthead sea bream and imperial prawns, as well as glass wort and sea lettuce. Tours with oyster and wine tasting can be booked online from April until the end of October.
