Villa Krasica enjoys a spectacular countryside location near the village of Krasica, adjacent to Groznjan, one of the most beautiful and charming art towns of Istria. Krasica is roughly 16km inland, in the northwestern part of the Istria peninsula, roughly 10km southeast of Buje and 25km northeast of Porec. Novigrad and Umag are coastal towns in the vicinity.
Groznjan boasts a rich history, inhabited since prehistoric times and flourishing during the Roman Empire. The town, first mentioned in 1102 as Piemonte, belonged to the Pietrapelosa family from the 13th to the mid-14th century and later came under Venetian rule. Many churches and palaces built during the Venetian period still stand today. Notable landmarks include the Renaissance Loggia from the 6th century and Spotty’s stunning Baroque palace. Groznjan’s medieval walls and city gates date back to the 15th century. The town’s small churches of St Rocco and St Martin, built in the 16th century, are worth a visit. The Gallery Fonticus showcases works by local and foreign artists. The surrounding area offers fantastic cycling and hiking routes, providing panoramic views of the central Istria region. Zavrsje, located en route to Motovun, offers a fabulous panorama of Groznjan and Motovun.
Istria, often likened to Tuscany, is characterized by olive groves, vineyards, and medieval hilltowns. The cuisine, with its Italian influence, features air-cured ham, fresh pasta, and truffles. Novigrad, once a peaceful fishing village, has transformed into a charming town boasting exceptional cuisine and historical sights. Notable attractions include St Pelagio and St. Maxim’s Parish Church, dating back to 1883, and the town harbor Mandrac. Further south, Porec offers entertainment for the whole family, with its picturesque Old Town, ancient ruins, narrow streets, boutiques, and craft shops. Rovinj, romantic and historic, exudes an Italian ambiance with its atmospheric streets, beautiful harbor, and trendy boutiques. The Old Town offers stunning views from the cathedral, while the Farmer’s Market is perfect for sampling local produce. Balota Beach, located on the Old Town peninsula, is a popular spot for sunbathing.
