The mesmerizing setting is how you may imagine your perfect Dordogne holiday. Listen to the church bells ring as you relax on your charming, shaded terrace with magnificent river views. Wander down the stone steps to the glorious gardens which extend all the way down to the riverbank, dip into the inviting swimming pool and admire the historic Pigeonnier which adds to the romantic ambience of this enchanting home.
The home has recently been renovated yet it has still managed to retain its traditional charm and character both inside and out. The rustic kitchen with its exposed stonework leads to the light and airy dining room with pretty French doors opening up to the al-fresco terrace. The living room is welcoming with its cozy fireplace for cooler months or step outside for coffee and croissants overlooking the gardens. All four bedrooms have their own bath or shower rooms, two of them enjoying lovely vistas down to the river.
River Dovecote is perfectly situated in a tiny hamlet opposite the church on the south side of the river just 4km from beautiful Limeuil, where the Vézère meets the Dordogne. A little further north, Le Bugue (10km) is a charming market town on the Vézère riverside with narrow winding streets to explore and beautiful buildings to admire. Visit on a Tuesday to experience the bustling market day, then hire canoes on the river or enjoy lunch in one of the many restaurants.
Other magical trips out should include sampling the delicious black truffle in the city of Périgueux, heading east to the exquisite town of Sarlat or simply exploring some of France’s Plus Beaux Villages such as Monpazier, Beynac and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle. Not forgetting the beautiful city of Bergerac with its unmissable Maison des Vins, visiting more charming riverside villages on the way.
With typically French interiors, colorful gardens and gentle river views, this really is picture postcard Dordogne as it’s meant to be.
