With magnificent views over the surrounding vineyards, this is idyllic Dordogne at its best. The countryside location offers peace and tranquillity, yet you are only a short drive from charming local villages and the exquisite city of Bergerac, a wine-lovers dream.
The stone cottage has a wonderfully spacious garden with vast lawns and mature fruit trees, lovely for an afternoon lazing with a good book in the shade from the summer sun. The swimming pool is a convivial place to meet with its al-fresco dining terrace, pergola and barbecue, enjoying the wide-stretching views beyond.
The cottage itself is light and airy, perched up from the gardens with a lovely breeze coming through the French windows that can be opened across the ground floor. The house is full of character with wood beamed ceilings, exposed brick work and wonderful wood burning fires, creating a cosy and welcoming ambience. The lovely kitchen-diner, with its terracotta floors, is the perfect place for keen cooks to create a feast using the very best in ingredients from the local markets. The two pretty ground floor en suite bedrooms add to the homely feel whilst a third bedroom (and downstairs shower room) can be found on the other side of the house on the upper floor in the tower wing.
This is a great location in the Dordogne, an area full of pretty medieval villages, fine wines, truffles, vibrant local markets, canoeing on the river and unspoilt views of stunning countryside. The nearest village has a couple of restaurants open in the summer months, just five minutes by car plus there is a wealth of other lovely villages in the area and impressive weekly markets not to be missed, such as Bergerac, Eymet and Sainte-Foy-la-Grande.
Other magical trips out should include sampling the delicious black truffle in the city of Périgueux, heading north over the river to the exquisite town of Sarlat or simply exploring some of France’s Plus Beaux Villages along the Dordogne such as La Roque Gageac, Beynac and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle. Not forgetting the nearby beautiful city of Bergerac with its unmissable Maisons de Vins or head north to the charming wine-town of Saint-Émilion.
Whether you are in the Dordogne to sample fine wines, explore idyllic villages and towns or just relax in the beautiful countryside, La Plaine is a charming cottage for your stay in this glorious region.

Location:
The Dordogne is known as the valley of 1000 chateaux with endless pretty medieval villages, fine wines, truffles, local markets and spectacular valleys and rivers. The Dordogne river, just 5km away, offers great kayaking, canoeing and unparalleled views of the countryside.
Your nearest village is Saussignac (2.5km), a small place with two restaurants, usually open from late April to October and during the summer there is sometimes a pop-up pizzeria once a week. Head to Gardonne (6km) for a local bakery whilst the nearest supermarket can be found ten minutes away towards Pineuilh (10km).
Bergerac (16m) to the west with its medieval architecture, pretty boutiques and high-end restaurants as well as the unmissable Maisons de Vins is a must.
There are of course some wonderful food markets to visit across villages and towns of the Dordogne including Bergerac (16km) on a Wednesday and Saturday morning, Eymet (20km) on a Thursday morning, local Sainte-Foy-la-Grande (11km) on a Saturday morning and a little further to the incredibly charming Issigeac (30km) on a Sunday morning.
In under an hour you can access two of France’s Plus Beaux Villages, Monflaquin (58km) and Monpazier (56km) or follow the Dordogne east all the way to beautiful villages such as Beynac-et-Cazenac (80km), La Roque-Gageac (84km) and Domme (90km) before heading north to delightful Sarlat-la-Canéda (92km) or the UNESCO World Heritage site at Lascaux Caves (97km). For a change of scene you can also head west for a day trip to the coast to sample some local oysters at Cap Ferret (160km) or Arcachon (150km).
Wine-lovers should also take a trip to the marvellous city of Bordeaux (90km) and the totally charming hilltop wine-town of Saint-Émilion (45km).
The whole region is a true haven for nature and sport lovers alike offering a wide array of outdoor activities, from horse-back riding, to tennis, mountain-biking, golfing and watersports, not to mention the number of hiking and fishing opportunities in the area. Teens will love the nearby waterparks, exploring prehistoric caves and historic castles or even a magnificent hot air balloon ride across the stunning region. The more adventurous may enjoy go-karting near Bergerac or tree-top activities in the forests north of the Dordogne.
