What better way to take in the picturesque landscapes Sonoma has to offer than from the seat of a bike? I’ve found that the rolling hills, acres of grapes, and green farmlands simply won’t fit if you’re looking through a car window, so hop on a bike and let’s go! Feeling the cool breezes from the coast as you pedal your way from winery to winery is the perfect way to experience this vineyard paradise.
Mid-morning is a great time to start on your ride through wine country. Any lingering fog will have burned off and the bright sun will shine down merrily as you set off toward your first destination. Choosing which wineries to visit and creating a tour route is easy if you tell me what your main interests are: Do you prefer organic grapes? Are you more interested in the older wineries that helped make Sonoma a household name in the industry? Maybe you’re after the best Sauvignon Blancs, Syrahs, or Pinot Noirs? Perhaps you would like me to arrange a tour of a vineyard followed by a private tasting. I am also happy to point you towards some of my favorite boutique wineries if you’d like to avoid the crowds and have a more personal interaction with the vintners.
The perfect accompaniment to your bike tour is a hearty picnic after you’ve worked up an appetite cruising along the winding roads. Some of the wineries serve food, but my favorite lunch after a bike ride is a picnic packed with fresh local produce and goods. Sonoma was was one of the frontrunners of the “local food” movement and we take pride in the delectable food we grow in this fertile valley. The climate that grows incredible grapes also grows amazing fruits and vegetables and provides rich land for dairy cows. It would be my pleasure to tell you the best places where to stock a picnic basket with ripe fruits, crusty breads, local olives and cheeses and of course, wine glasses so you can enjoy a glass of your new favorite Sonoma wine. Cheers!
