There’s so much more to these islands than shipwrecks and famous shorts!
Bermuda dazzles with her outrageous charm, just as she intrigues with her culture. The island’s fusion of British colonial history and African heritage makes for an exciting playground. These North Atlantic islands comprise only 21 miles, though don’t let that fool you; there’s much to see and do.
Rekindle the romance within private coves and on blushing pink-sand beaches, before indulging in a shopper’s paradise of no sales tax.
For an authentic experience, on Saturdays join the locals stocking up on fresh local vegetables, fruit, fish, jams, baked goods and more at the Bermuda Farmers’ Market, rain or shine. While the kids enjoy pony rides, you can stock up on locally made crafts. Of course, the real gems are found at the Bermuda Craft Market; where you’ll browse the works of more than 60 local artists, eager to show off their craftwork.
After some retail therapy, head to the beautiful Botanical Gardens, to take in some of the island’s gorgeous flora. Inside this impressive 36-acre paradise, unexpected cultural experiences await. Art aficionados; don’t miss the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, also located in the gardens. This gallery is Bermuda’s first ever purpose-built museum that houses a collection of over 1,200 pieces of Bermuda-inspired art.
Art lovers should also continue on to the Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard. Since its opening by Princess Margaret in 1984, this spot has been a showcase for local artists and artisans and an excellent place to see our island’s works. And the exhibits change every six weeks, so there is always something new to see.
