Many Sports in One Small Island: Anguilla

While it might be nearly impossible to tear yourself away from the beaches on Anguilla, there has never been a better opportunity to try your hand at a new sport or leisure activity while on your next Time & Place vacation. There is no end to outdoor adventure in this tropical paradise.

Anguilla is home to the Anguilla Tennis Academy so it might be time to pick up a racquet and take a private lesson with one of the Academy’s instructors. Make it a family event with a lesson for you and the kids to enjoy the spirit of friendly competition. Challenge the kids or fellow travel companions to a doubles match to test your new skills!

Other on land activities include world class golf with spectacular views and courses that will both challenge and delight. If your game needs a tune-up, my favorite golf pros will be happy to help you get your swing straightened out and your putting back on track.

If you’d rather take advantage of the shimmering Caribbean sea at your doorstep, how about learning to sail? One of my favorite island pastimes is a sunset sail with dinner prepared onboard with fish caught by the local fishermen, or if you prefer, your own catch of the day! Sailing lessons can be easily arranged and it’s up to you whether you’ll choose a sunset cruise or perhaps a day-long excursion with off-shore fishing or stops at hidden cays for snorkeling and swimming.

If snorkeling isn’t quite adventurous enough but you aren’t certified to scuba dive, there are several dive shops that can get you started on your certification and even the beginner classes feature an ocean dive. If you do happen to be certified, scuba gear is easily attained and be sure to ask me what my favorite dive sites are… they may or may not involve sunken ships and the possibility of treasure!

Both on land and at sea, there are endless chances to learn something new or improve upon your hobbies. The relaxing setting of Anguilla will provide the perfect atmosphere for enhancing or cultivating your love for leisure sports like tennis and golf and your penchant for water activities like swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving.
