This completely private and serene home is located just a few short miles around the slopes of Diamond Head from all the great shopping, dining, surfing and entertainment of vibrant Honolulu.

This home is a 1930′s colonial Hawaiian home. Originally built by the royal family as a summer cottage.

This two story Colonial Plantation home is situated in a private gated community of 8 homes overlooking the Maunalua Bay and Koko Head. This small enclave was original built as summer cottages for the Royal family as they are particularly well situated to the water and cooling trade winds. Paddling, canoeing, surfing and and stand up paddle board are all favorites of the locals in this community of their shared access to the water from the Beach at Royal Circle.

The art deco stair railing painted in ‘bird of paradise’ dominates the colorful Hawaiiana decor in this space filled with Maine Cottage rattan wool hawaiian print rugs and painted screen with under water sea anemonies.

Coffee bean stained floors contrast with ‘Hibiscus’ walls and high gloss white enamel ceilings.  Sculptures by local artist Irving Jenkins and a painted screen of sea anemones line the walls, while painted wicker furnishings by Maine Cottage fill the space that opens up to the lanai overlooking the pool. The reflection of the garden is emulated by the color palette of the decor.

It is wonderful how the light reflects the color palette of the room’s furnishings and art in the  colonial, high gloss enamel ceilings. The living room opens up to a covered lanai that overlooks the pool secluded by lush tropical and colorful gardens. The lanai is perfect for sunbathing and dining. There is a refreshment kitchenette and barbecue.

HIbiscus colored Dining Room echoes the colors of the garden. The banana and banyan trees are an exotic backdrop seen through the authentic vintage wood windows. The perfect amount of light for this art filled room. Vignette of painting by Daryl Millard flanked with two 18th century glazed Chinese jars drooping with Pink lady Heliconias and Koa- wood bowls by Dan Kvitka.

The ambiance of the Family Room is serene  as it overlooks the tranquil sculpture garden with a bronze Hawaiian sculpture. A cozy place to put your feet up in the sun-shaded family room that spills out to the back garden of bright heliconias contrasting with black taro and adorned with sculpture by local artist. A pallet of Hibiscus yellows on the walls, floor and wicker furniture will uplift and relax you as you escape with and old movie or drift into days past as the model of the Luriline ship replicates.

“Bird of Paradise” is the color of the marvelous vintage kitchen that has been remodeled to retain the authentic character of the Hawaiiana Era but with state of the art appliances such as Sub Zero Refrigerator and Wolf cooktop and Thermador oven. Stunning Stainless Nickel Countertops. Enjoy breakfast around the painted wicker table by Maine cottage looking out over banyan and banana trees and lush tropical landscape.  Enjoy a cool afternoon drink and a game of poker  in rattan barrel chairs at the antique Art Deco Burmese Majon table.

Relax in the Master Bedroom with the surf breaking on the reef and trade winds soothing your skin. Tropical birds sounds, flower scents, and the crashing surf fill the atmosphere that is so beautifully reflected in the decor of this room. An Ensuite Bath with Tub and Shower  separate vanity and Two sinks. The Master Bedroom features an ocean view backdrop  that is framed by sheer copper curtains that billow in the warm tropical trade winds. The dark cane bed is a beautiful contrast to set of a traditional Hawaiian Quilt.

The Honolulu Blue  Guest Room is a cozy cool escape from the summer sun.  Two sets of vintage accordion doors open to lush tropical gardens while the interior pallet emulates the colors of the tropical sea and sky. The bed is dressed in traditional Hawaiian quilts beneath a painting by Daryl Millard. Painted wicker side tables by Maine Cottage and paddle lamps add to the local vernacular. Separate Bath with shower.
